Terms of Service
Last updated: June 26, 2026
Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Recovery Tree. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Recovery Tree. They work alongside our Privacy Policy.
Who we are, and what this is
Recovery Tree is a recovery support tool. It takes inspiration from the spirit of the 12 steps as passed on by many recovery elders, but it does not represent any fellowship. It is a supplement to recovery — not a substitute for meetings, groups, sponsorship, or professional care.
We are not a medical provider, therapist, counselor, or sponsor, and nothing in the app is medical advice, treatment, or a professional relationship of any kind.
You must be 18 or older
Recovery Tree is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the app. We do not knowingly allow accounts from minors; if we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.
In a crisis, reach a person
Recovery Tree is not an emergency service and cannot provide crisis intervention. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact emergency services or a crisis line right now — in the US, call or text 988(Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). Real recovery and real safety happen with people.
Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account.
- Your recovery content is stored under a pseudonymous ID, kept separate from your billing identity. Anonymity is core to how the app works — please don't undermine it for yourself or others.
- Tell us at support@recoverytree.cc if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
Using the app responsibly
Recovery Tree includes shared spaces (such as community and accountability features). To keep them safe, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, abuse, or harm other people
- Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent who you are
- Share another person's private or identifying information
- Use the app for anything unlawful, or to break these terms
- Disrupt, attack, reverse-engineer, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service
We may remove content or suspend accounts that put others at risk or break these terms.
Elder Tree and AI
Elder Tree is an AI conversation partner. It can help you reflect and work through Steps 1–4, but it is not a sponsor, therapist, or person, and it can be wrong. Step 5 and the deeper work of recovery require human connection. AI responses are generated by our provider (Anthropic) and are not professional advice — use your own judgment and lean on real people and professionals.
Your content
What you write in Recovery Tree is yours. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store and display it back to you, and — where you choose to post in shared spaces — to show it to others as the feature intends. You can export or delete your data as described in the Privacy Policy. When you enable private journaling, your entries are encrypted on your device with a key only you hold.
Subscriptions and payments
Recovery Tree offers free features and an optional paid subscription with additional features. On Android, payments and subscriptions are processed through Google Play Billing and governed by Google's terms in addition to ours. Paid subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel; you can manage or cancel a subscription through your app store account. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. Prices and features may change, and we'll give notice of material changes.
No medical or professional advice
Recovery Tree does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. It is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or addiction treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified professional for medical or mental-health concerns, and never disregard or delay that advice because of something in the app.
The app is provided “as is”
We work hard to make Recovery Tree helpful and reliable, but we provide it “as is,” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Recovery Tree is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited by law.
Ending your use
You can stop using Recovery Tree and delete your account at any time (Help & Support → Delete Account, or email us). We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. How we handle your data on deletion is described in the Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email or an in-app notice before they take effect. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Recovery Tree operates, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. (Specific governing law and venue to be confirmed.)
